The answers dwell beneath…
I’d like to welcome Kindle Scout winner Norman Prentiss to the blog! Norman’s book, Odd Adventures with your Other Father was released on 31st May 2016 and has been gathering awesome reviews ever since. If you like horror, fantasy, LGBT and a dash of romance then you need to check it out! So over to Norman for some more info on his inspiration for the book and maybe a sneak peek…
Norman: Thank you for having me Debbie.
Debbie: Thanks for coming. I’d love to know what inspired Odd Adventures with your Other Father.
Norman: I’ve had the initial concept for the book for quite a while, with an early story idea called “Union” that I made notes on almost a dozen years ago. I made the notes on my Palm Pilot, if that’s any indication of the era, ha!
The idea of “Union” had to do with a gay couple who couldn’t get married, but had a kind of telepathic link as compensation for the restriction to their legal/social status. Since I mostly write horror stories, the story veered in the direction of a kidnapping, with one partner trying to locate the other via a series of gruesome supernatural/telepathic clues.
My initial inspiration actually came from the ending of JANE EYRE, when Jane gets a kind of telepathic “phone call” from her soul-mate Mr. Rochester. She hears a voice calling her name, but he’s not in the room: “It was the voice of a human being — a known, loved, well-remembered voice — that of Edward Fairfax Rochester; and it spoke in pain and woe, wildly, eerily, urgently.” I always loved that moment in the book, since it’s the one definite supernatural event in a novel that hints of ghostly mysteries throughout. And the idea that intense or troubled romance could magnify a couple’s connection, making it supernatural, always stayed with me.
I never finished “Union,” but much later began writing other stories with a similar concept, featuring Jack and Shawn, a young gay couple. These road-trip adventures all take place in the 1980s–one with a succubus, one with a town of strange inhabitants, and one with a homunculus that embodied a character’s homophobia–and these formed the basis for ODD ADVENTURES WITH YOUR OTHER FATHER. I built a frame story that takes place in the present day, connecting these adventures as Jack and Shawn’s daughter tries to find out more about her parents, and the novel was almost complete.
But something was missing. I realized I needed an “origin” story, to show how Jack first got his version of telepathic powers (borrowed from Mr. Rochester). So I ended up writing “Union” after all, a dozen years later, although it’s revised title is “Bread Crumbs.”
It was a real challenge putting the whole book together. In addition to being a mix of genres (Horror, Fantasy, LGBT road-trip adventure, and a Romance of sorts) it also has an unusual structure of 4 inter-related stories, woven together by the daughter’s own odd adventure. I’m really happy with how it turned out, though: I think Celia’s story gives a different kind of emotional depth to her fathers’ exploits in the 1980s.
Debbie: Wow, it must have felt awesome to finally bring it all together like that. Any chance of a sneak peek?
Norman: Sure. Here’s a brief excerpt from earlier in the book, in the “Bread Crumbs” adventure, after Jack’s been abducted. Shawn has recently learned that Jack can project images into his mind. It’s a shared bond, but also a kind of curse, since Jack can only project disturbing images. This excerpt also conveys some of the interaction with the daughter, Celia, while Shawn narrates the stories:
I crawled blind, scraping forward along my stomach, elbows out and legs bent to scoot me forward. I expected the roof of the tunnel to open up once I’d crawled and slid forward a few feet. The ground opened up instead.
I felt the drop-off with my hands, the slide of the tunnel breaking away along a rough ledge. I dug behind with my toes to keep from sliding further, then paused for my eyes to adjust to the limited light.
The ledge formed the lip of a small pit. The distance wasn’t too far—about ten feet or so, and if I twisted my body as I emerged from the tunnel, I could probably land without hurting myself.
Only one problem. Spikes pointed up from the floor of the pit. Blood gleamed from the sharp tips of two dozen wooden spears. The carcass of a possum was skewered on one post, through the bottom of its neck and out the eye socket. The body slid partway down the spear, but the eye jelly remained, blood gleaming on the tip.
It was impossible, like so many other things Jack had shown me in this haunted forest. But I thought about those strangers who abducted Jack. They beat him and dragged him off a parking lot and into the woods. Wouldn’t that be the same kind of people who’d set an awful trap, pretending to catch animals but hoping for human prey?
“It’s too real, Jack. I can’t follow you. I can’t…”
I let myself fall.
(Let’s try an experiment, Celia. Pretend my finger is a sharp wooden spike. Now, you know it’s not, so there’s nothing to be afraid of.
Now, I’m going to bring it close to your face. Sit still. Try not to blink. I’m bringing this pointed spike right to your nose. There.
Did you feel it? I didn’t touch you at all. But you felt it, didn’t you? And not on your nose. In your eyes.
That’s what I felt as I dropped, head down, into that pit. Spikes coming towards me, toward my eyes, poking each of them, tearing through them, through my brain and out the back of my head.
A horrible sensation. Because your eyes always wince, don’t they?
Even at something false.)
Debbie: I have goosebumps! Thank you so much for sharing with us.
Norman: My pleasure.

Its been a while since we posted on the blog! But here we are on this really hot summer day in the UK. Phew! Got come Coke chilling in the fridge and we’re about to tuck into some pasta at Cassidy’s while we do some brainstorming.
Right, so we wanted to fill you in on what we’ve been up to…
Together we have a new book releasing on September 13th. Its called Shadow Reaper and we are so excited about sharing it with you guys. And it is also the start of a new series. WOOHOO! We won a contract with Kindle Press via Kindle Scout, so the book will be published with Kindle Press and will be up for pre-order soon 🙂

Here is the gorgeous cover:
Amos has completed the first draft of his solo book and is currently giving it a read-through with his red pen. Keep your eyes peeled for updates and how everything is coming along 😀
Okay, so we’re off to melt…
Hello, Peeps! Cassidy here!
Well, I’ve decided to do do it, I’m leaving cake behind for a few weeks. Not forever, just for a while. I’m hitting the gym again and doing my solid five week workout where I eat healthy, cry because I miss cake so much, and obsessively check my belly fat. I know, put like that it doesn’t sound like much fun, but I figure if I go hardcore now, I and get into shape for when it gets really warm and hopefully just maintain it at a steady level. I may be delusional, but I gotta try.
I’m also in the process of preparing to move house. It’s our first step onto the property ladder, and I’m a little afraid of heights, lol. For me it’ll mean juggling kids, packing, writing and the cover design business – which is going great by the way – shameless plug coming up – If you need a quality cover within a budget then check out my page and drop me a message SHAMELESS PLUG LINK.
So what’s on the agenda writing wise? OH MY GOODNESS! You guys are in for a treat and we are so bleedin excited, I mean, I almost wet myself every time I think about it – should have worked harder on those pelvic floor exercises after the kiddies. Ahem, what was I saying? Oh, yeah, we’re bringing you two new series this year – Shadowlands and Hounds of God! Yep! Two awesome worlds for you to fall in love with. Shadow Reaper is out on the 30th June, and its the first book in our Shadowlands series. Its a Post-apocalyptic, urban fantasy blend that will keep you flipping those pages. Hounds of God is Raven’s series. Remember that hot gay bloke from the Crimson Series? Beta turned alpha? You know the one – if not then where have you been? Read the Crimson series! lol. Anyway, Raven is the MC of the Hounds of God. It’s a spin off series from the Crimson World, and a whole new epic adventure with the pack and some awesome new characters! We have that planned for release on Christmas day – our little gift to you guys!
Finally, I’m sure you’ve heard – considering I’ve been running around with a megaphone telling the whole world – that I have a solo novel out called Forest of Demons. Well it’s up for pre-order, so if you have a thing for High and Epic fantasy then check it out! FOREST OF DEMONS
I thinks that’s all the stuff happening in the world of Amos Cassidy at the moment but we’ll keep you informed – megaphone at the ready.
Happy reading, Peeps!
P.S. Watch out for some live streaming videos on facebook, coming soon…
P.P.S Please ignore typos and erros, Amos wasn’t available to check over the post with this eagle editor eye.
We’ve been battling with our alter egos for a while now. They’re a little put out that they do all the story hunting and we write it all down and get all the glory. So, after much heated debate, we’ve agreed to introduce them to the world. So without further ado, let us introduce the Story Hunters!
Hunter Cassidy (HC): Hello, all! Sorry about the dirt and grime, we’ve been on reconnaissance mission into the Shadowlands.
Cassidy: Um, that books not been released yet, HC.
HC: What? We discovered that one last year! Seriously, could you write any slower?
Cassidy: At least I can write.
Amos: You two need to learn to get on.
HC: She’s just jealous that I get to meet hotties and she’s stuck at a laptop screen. If you just assimilated like we suggested, you could have the best of both worlds. Aren’t you sick of having to pluck your eyebrows and wax your legs? Assimilate with me and you’ll be picture perfect forever.
Cassidy: *glances at Amos*
Amos: *looks torn*
Hunter Amos (HA): Hi! Sorry I’m late. It was a bitch getting out of Longbrooke and-
Amos: Shhh! Dammit! That’s not out till the end of the month!
HA: *rolls his eyes* What did I miss?
HC: Me telling them they need to assimilate *grins* Best of both worlds.
HA: Best of all worlds, mate *nudges Amos*
Amos: You’re not going to stop banging on about it are you?
HC and HA: Nope!
Cassidy: Fine, I give up. Let’s do this.
Amos: Would be nice to actually visit the worlds we write about.
HC: You ready to become one?
Cassidy and Amos: *nod* Let’s do this.
Goodbye, DB. You will always be my greatest…
I first discovered David Bowie as Jareth the Goblin King in Labyrinth back in the day. That film, oh that film… It is still one of my favourites to this day. The song ‘As the World Falls Down’ still brings tears to my ears, makes me glow on the inside with a powerful warmth. Simply magical.
But it was some years later that I truly discovered my favourite musician of all time in all his musical glory. It was through the album Heathen. I was looking at it in a shop, I remember, thinking that I would absolutely love to give this album a go. So I got it and fell in love instantly when the opening track ‘Sunday’ started to play. That was it, I was completely hooked. Then came the song ‘Slip Away’ and I was so deeply in love. That was the beginning of what is my eternal adoration for the greatness that was, and always will be, David Bowie. He will always be my greatest. Always. He was my idol, and will continue to be so. His music sends chills down my spine, makes me feel on top of the world, makes me think, and also breaks my heart.
I keep playing the album Blackstar over and over again. I can’t believe he’s gone. Last week, as it approached the release day for the album, I was so excited. Then two days later the world said goodbye to the Starman. I just can’t believe it. But he will be eternal, and his music will live on for all time.
Goodnight, David. Thanks for all the masterpieces.

Meet K 3 4 G E N – He’s not quite human.
Sweat ran down Keagen’s muscular back as he pressed the female against the wall. A rock-hard body, with perfect proportions and stamina that would outlast a stable of thoroughbred racehorses, was nowhere near to flagging. He’d pounded the woman for the last hour, nonstop. The female on the receiving end of his attention cried herself hoarse more than twenty minutes earlier. She needed to rest, but large hands cupped her ass, supporting her weight, and only when he’d had enough would he let her down.
With the air-con turned up high the smell of fresh sweat and sex hung in the air. Keagen loved to fuck; he had some catching up to do after his sex-starved existence for the first part of his adult life. Puffing out a few quick breaths, he built up his pace. He was ready for a beer and wanted the woman out of his room.
Keagen was tall, muscular, and stronger than most men were, although he wasn’t exactly a man. His genes were human DNA with a hint of animal, courtesy of Solgen Laboratories. It wasn’t common knowledge what the company did, and their labs were all in secret locations. Only their financial backers knew where they were. Who supported them was unclear. Possibly the government, private military organizations, or even wealthy dictators; no one knew. You would not find any documentation about it. It wasn’t legal what they were doing, that’s for sure.
Keagen tracked and hunted escapees and always caught his prey, but just one eluded him, and it pissed him off. Nevertheless, he was closing in, and soon he’d return to base with his prize in tow. Given free reign to come and go as he pleased, Keagen enjoyed the freedom, and as long as he brought in the bounty, all was well. Sometimes out in the field for days or weeks at a time, he upheld contact by phone; a check-in, but he wasn’t worried. Sometimes he needed ‘Keagen’ time. Holding up at his secret hideaway, or a motel, where a steady stream of females frequented his room, he could easily fob off his supervisor. The geneticists made the mistake of giving him just a little too much intelligence. Consequently, his IQ already rivaled some of the top minds in the world, and he was smart enough to hide that fact from his testers.
Grunting and hissing through gritted teeth, Keagen screamed his orgasm as he fucked the flagging woman; those last deep thrusts into her satisfied pussy filling the room with a guttural cry. Throwing his head back, his wet hair slapped against his shoulders. The muscles in his thighs held the female firmly against the wall for a few moments until his hips finally stilled and finished jerking. Catching his breath, he rested his head against the cool plaster before releasing the sighing woman. As she tried to stand her knees buckled, but he quickly scooped her up and laid her on the bed.
Meet Gabriel – Lycan
It was quiet in the smoke-filled bar. Just the gentle humming from the waitress broke the silence. Drew’s was a rundown place where the locals piled in after work. Mostly hanging out for just a few drinks to wind down before heading home, they used it as a stopgap, preparing for more stress from either home life, or a second job. There were the regulars who propped up the bar day and night. Jack, one of the old-timers, spent all his time drooling over the young women as they tended bar. Occasional delivery trucks would hold up in the parking lot and the drivers would drop in for coffee, just to keep from falling asleep on long hauls. Smokey and dark, with subdued lighting with wood paneling covering the walls and an unvarnished wooden floor, it was a place to relax and ponder.
Gabriel was a regular and sat at the end of the bar in his usual place. From his vantage point, he could view the entire room. He didn’t have children or work to unwind from, but still enjoyed a cool beer. Without turning his head, the washroom and entrance were all visible. He could see everyone come and go with ease. Sitting quietly, he’d listen. Unless someone started the conversation first, he’d barely speak, but take in everything.
The quiet town appealed to Gabriel. Moving here just over a year ago, he settled in easily and found a place to stay. After renovating a cabin just on the edge of town, it gave him the seclusion he desired. He could take a short drive into suburbia and have everything he needed before returning to the solace he preferred. He kept to himself and avoided confrontations. Causing trouble wasn’t in his nature. However, he came over as someone who didn’t take crap, and he would let small annoyances slide until he reached a breaking point, then you didn’t want to be around to see the fall out. On a few occasions, Gabriel let people know he wasn’t someone they should fuck with, earning him respect shortly afterward. In sleepy town bars, there’s always someone dropping by to stir up the calm. Stepping in to deal with troublemakers made him the resident bouncer. There was never any exchange of cash; he didn’t need a regular job. He just did it. Drew made sure he never went thirsty and all drinks were on the house for keeping the place brawl-free, which suited Gabriel. The more beer, the better, and he didn’t like having his peace and quiet disturbed; it was a win-win situation.
Watching Lyssa brought out his more human characteristics; he’d not always had those. A year ago, he was nothing more than a caged animal. He tried not to think about the past, but occasionally something would trigger his thoughts.
Taking a mouthful of beer, he watched everyone and everything. Casually watching Jack eye up the sweet piece of ass, he grinned. He’d been close, and was still working on getting closer. Never short of female attention, Gabriel made up for lost time as soon as he broke free from his captors. There wasn’t a huge choice of pussy in Dewburn Falls, but quality, not quantity was the issue here. Lyssa would succumb to him, eventually. They couldn’t resist him, and he was astounded she’d lasted this long; he had a feeling she’d be worth the wait. Continuing his advances and hoping for a victory soon, Lyssa proved an interesting challenge.
He wasn’t sure if it was luck, or fate, that brought him here, but finding two female lycans was a surprise. Taking a drink, he smiled as his thoughts turned to Sally. He’d been in town only two weeks and gotten lucky with her.
