While it is easy to live spiritually in a spiritual society, it is undoubtedly challenging to live spiritually in a non-spiritual society. Hence, this book explores the deep questions: (1) How to use beliefs for spiritual living? (2) How do spiritual beings cope with money in a non-spiritual society? (3) What are the characteristics of spiritual beings as compared to physical beings? This book contains a conversation between a young man, Tom, and Guru Harry, who epitomizes someone from a spiritual society and offers a way of living that can lead to peace, love, joy and harmony. In the conversation, they explore all the above questions and other issues related to living spiritually in a non-spiritual society. May this wisdom enable you to live as a spiritual being everywhere!
In spirituality, there is a theory that a Great Spirit hovers around us. It sees what we are doing. It guides us and protects us. It also creates opportunities for us to meet the “right” people and participate in the “right” events so that we grow spiritually. Is this theory true? I don’t know. I’m an ordinary human being without any spiritual power. However, by looking at the events that happened in my present incarnation for the past 70 years, I believe that there were many occasions in which the Great Spirit was active in my life. In this book, in nine chapters, I share the people and events which I believe the Great Spirit has used to shape my life and moved me in directions that I had never dreamt of. The chapters are: (1) On my parents, (2) On my studies, (3) On my working life as an engineer and on my wife, (4) On my working life as an academic, (5) On my sporting achievements, (6) On my working life as an editor and a consultant, (7) On my working life as an author and a speaker, (8) On my life mission and other life stories, and (9) On the Great Spirit. After living this life for seven decades and believing that it has been shaped by the Great Spirit, I like to say that it’s been a truly blessed life – a life that is filled with meaning and fulfillment! I hope this sharing enables you to be more aware of the Great Spirit in your life and you too will see your life as blessed, meaningful, and fulfilling. May the Great Spirit be with you!
Have you met an engineering professor? Have you met an engineering professor who is deep into spirituality and writes spiritual books? I have, and he is me. I had worked as an engineering professor in a university in Singapore. I now write philosophical, self-help and spiritual books. For an engineering professor to become a spiritual author is unusual to say the least. Indeed, it is this unusualness that prompted me to write this book. Engineering and spirituality are often perceived as two ends of a spectrum, and it is. As engineering deals with the physical, and spirituality deals with the non-physical, there is actually tremendous synergy once they are combined. In this book, there are ten chapters in which I share my physical and spiritual journey. They are: (1) Study years, (2) Working years, (3) Academic years, (4) From an engineering professor to a spiritual author, (5) Care for the dying, (6) Being unemployed, (7) Return as consultant, (8) Into politics and socio-political writings, (9) Becoming a spiritual philosopher, and (10) Epilogue. You are invited to join me on this journey. I hope this sharing is beneficial to you. May your life be filled with peace, love, joy and harmony!
In this book, a young man, Tom, has conversations with Guru Dick and Guru Harry. In the conversations, Tom quizzes the gurus on how to become a master of life. Guru Dick explains that to become a master of life, one has to be rich and powerful and able to control life. On the other hand, Guru Harry expounds that a master of life is someone who lives spiritually and able to offer help and kindness. The gurus further offer contrasting views on what is meaningful living. Among various aspects of living, the gurus discuss the following: (1) Is giving to charity meaningful? (2) Is going to holy places to pray, sing and do volunteer work meaningful? (3) Is entering politics meaningful? Finally, the gurus give their own definitions on living a meaningful life. For those who are interested in meaningful living, this book offers a fresh perspective!
This book is a sequel to “Masters of Life on Meaningful Living” and “Masters of Life on Good Life and Good Society”. Moving beyond good society, this book explores how to transform Earth into heaven. Guru Dick epitomizes someone from a worldly society who emphasizes the importance of money and power. Guru Harry epitomizes someone from a spiritual society who considers peace, love, joy and harmony are more important. In the two conversations, the discussions include cultures, education, politics, religion and a new philosophical approach to spirituality. Finally, the two gurus offer contrasting views on how to bring heaven to Earth. For those who are interested in transforming Earth into heaven, this book offers a fresh perspective!
In the architecture of Rudolf Steiner’s great cosmological temple, this extraordinary course of lectures on spiritual beings forms the central pillar, taking its place with other important texts such as the fourth chapter of An Outline of Esoteric Science (CW 13); The Spiritual Hierarchies and the Physical World (CW 136); and Inner Experiences of Evolution (CW 132). These works outline a revolutionary angelological cosmology and lie at the heart of Steiner’s mission to transform our understanding of the world by offering a new, non-dual, phenomenological path to a contemporary divine-spiritual-physical cosmology that is angelological and theophanic. Steiner’s approach is “contemporary” in that, being continuous with the most ancient understanding of the cosmos, he also discovers it for himself, through his own experience and consciousness, and expresses it in his own words with a logic and language appropriate to our time. Thus, he teaches us, his readers, to do the same. According to Rudolf Steiner, the world is made up of “beings.” This includes the very ground of the world itself, the “Father being.” His cosmology or angelology is personal, and it is known in relationship. Therefore, he presents it in terms of conditions and acts of consciousness and in relation to the divine spiritual beings whose conditions and activities they are. The spiritual world is always a world of beings. The twin realizations go together—that “I am an ‘I’” and that “reality is comprised of other “I” beings. Cosmology is angelology. Spiritual beings define all experience of reality.

‘Suppose you have seen an event, have formed an idea about it, and you say something that is not true – in other words, something that is a lie. Then what flows from the object is correct and what flows from you is false and this collision is a terrible explosion; and each time you do this, you attach a gruesome being to your karma which you cannot get rid of again until you have made good what you lied about.’ – Rudolf Steiner In a previously-untranslated volume of lectures, Rudolf Steiner presents shattering insights regarding the interaction of human and spiritual beings. He speaks, for example, about how perfumes can give certain spirits access to people on earth, or how phantoms, spectres and demons can be created through human deficiencies – or even how the arts of architecture, sculpture, painting and music allow ‘good’ or ‘hideous’ entities to enter our world. As he states: ‘Learning about the effects of spiritual beings is of much greater help than moral preaching. A future humanity will know what it is creating through lies, hypocrisy and slander.’ The lectures are divided into two broad thematic groups: the first relating to the inner path of knowledge and its relation to the yearly festivals, and the second focusing on the work of elemental beings in our everyday world. The 18 lectures are complemented with notes, an index and an introduction by Christian von Arnim.
