Amidst a fragile recovery, three clouds are gathering over the economic horizon: US inflation could provoke financial tightening, China's structural slowdown and zero-COVID-19 policy could dampen regional exports, and the conflict between Russia and Ukraine could disrupt food and fuel supplies, spook financial markets, and undermine business confidence. Counterposed against these risks, are three opportunities. First, shifts in the patterns of comparative advantage are creating new niches in both goods and services trade. Second, the diffusion of technologies could boost productivity. Finally, new green technologies could allow countries to cut carbon emissions without unacceptable cuts in consumption or growth. Accordingly, policy action must help countries to both affect the risk and grasp the opportunities. We begin by addressing three proximate questions: What is happening to the economies? Why? And what can we expect? We then discuss the policy options that can help East Asia and Pacific economies weather the shocks and ensure sustainable growth.

This is a cruising guide with a difference. Many boaters may not be aware of the opportunities for walks accessible from anchorages along the B.C. coast. For those who cruise with dogs aboard, and for those who like to venture ashore to stretch their legs, the book is illustrated with charming maps describing walks up and down the coast. Framed by the author's many years of cruising on a beautiful wooden sailboat along with her husband and two dogs, it tells tales of mishaps, adventures, explorations and glorious days on the water. The book is set against the stunning backdrop of the waters, mountains and islands between the B.C. mainland and Vancouver Island. If you are an experienced sailor with extensive knowledge of the B.C. Coast, are new to boating, or even a confirmed landlubber and armchair sailor, you will love this book. It is a "must have" in every boat's cruising library.

But he was lying there beside her, waiting for her answer. A stranger. They were strangers. She turned slowly away from him, towards the window. And against the bright blue sky, she saw the storks flying away in formation, an arrow in the sky. They’d started their long journey at last, back to their other home. They’d dared to dream again. And roam the skies for something they’d loved and lost, perhaps. ‘Perhaps,’ she said turning back. In poetic vignettes set against the fascinating exotics of Australia and France, Chandani Lokugé weaves a haunting and meditative story on the spectral gains and losses of travel, the nature of its transience. Through it, she dignifies with grace and tenderness, our unassuageable yearning, when we have lost everything and even ourselves, to anchor to something, someone, somewhere, and the unexpected moment of our arrival. ‘A haunting mystical reading experience, suffused with history, art, and recovery from trauma. An inspired travelogue … the damaged genius of Van Gogh brooding over the narrative, with hints of both joy and anguish.’ Chris Ringrose

The story unfolds mostly in two imaginary countries in West Africa and North America. Years of military coups and disillusionment after political independence persuade the people of a West African country to take the suggestion of a woman genius, Aberewa Tachiwaa, and go back in their history to retrieve what they have left behind. While the prospects of the new order look promising, the Gyase-hene, Osebo Okoampa plans to subvert them and become the first paramount chief, although he is not of royal lineage. The story shows how the Achem people of the Akan migrated first through Libya and then the Sahel region of the Niger Bend to their current place in the forest region of West Africa. The story also explains how the fabulous kente cloth was created centuries ago and how its name was derived.
